For Churches
Interested in becoming a congregation of the Global Methodist Church? Review the five steps below and use the church application when you are ready.
Church Application ↗For Clergy
Use the clergy application for clergy transfer, ordination, or candidacy in the Global Methodist Church. The congregational steps below describe church affiliation—not the clergy application process.
Clergy Application ↗How a Church Joins
For congregations in the Alabama / Emerald Coast Conference, the current joining process is straightforward.
Currently part of another denomination? A congregation that is presently part of another denomination should also follow that denomination’s governing requirements for withdrawal.
-
Determine your current denominational status.
A congregation that is already part of another denomination may hold its GMC affiliation vote and begin the GMC application process before its withdrawal is complete. For a congregation leaving another denomination, the GMC application asks for an effective date that follows the end of the prior affiliation. An independent congregation may proceed immediately.
-
Hold a duly called congregational meeting.
Professing members present and voting consider affiliation with the GMC. The current GMC process requires the motion below to be adopted by a simple majority of those present and voting.
Recommended Form of the Motion
“I move that __________________ Church become a member congregation of the Global Methodist Church, that it affirms and endorses the doctrinal standards (Part One), Social Witness (Part Three), and church governance of the Global Methodist Church as set forth in its Book of Doctrines and Discipline, and agrees to be accountable to such standards, witness, and governance. Our leadership and trustees are authorized to take all actions necessary to implement this motion.”
-
Document the vote in the meeting minutes.
The minutes should record the motion and the vote by which it was adopted. Have the presiding officer and the secretary of the meeting sign the minutes or other official record of the action.
-
Submit the digital church application.
An authorized church representative completes the GMC Church Application, selects the Alabama / Emerald Coast Conference, and uploads the meeting minutes. Both the GMC and the Alabama Emerald Coast Conference will receive the application.
-
Complete review and establish the effective date.
After the application is reviewed and accepted through the AEC/GMC process, the congregation is notified and becomes a member of the Global Methodist Church and the Alabama / Emerald Coast Conference on the approved effective date.
